CURRENT AND RECENT PROJECTS

Reverse Mortgages and Long-Term Care.  A study of the potential use of reverse mortgages to help elderly people pay for long-term care and long-term care insurance.  Report forthcoming from the Georgetown University Long-Term Care Financing Project.

Improving Assistance for Low-Income Medicare Beneficiaries. 

  •     A study of options for simplifying eligibility rules for Medicaid and for the low-income subsidies under the new Medicare drug benefit.  Commissioned by National Academy of Social Insurance in support of its project on barriers to enrollment for Medicare/Medicaid dual eligibles.
  •    A report for the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) on ways to improve access and coordination of care for dually eligible Medicare/Medicaid beneficiaries.

Insurance Coverage and Spending for High-Cost Chronic Conditions.  A series of reports, using data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, on sources and continuity of health insurance coverage, total costs, and out-of-pocket spending for people with cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.  Commissioned by the American Cancer Society.

Medical Underwriting.  A report on medical underwriting in the individual and small group health insurance markets and on options for improving access to coverage for high-risk individuals.  Commissioned by the National Health Policy Forum, George Washington University.
